Jameson is running a global St Patrick’s Day party for online and real-world fans over 48 hours across four continents and seven time zones. The Jameson Global Party will take place in 18 different venues across the world, including Dublin, Sofia, Johannesburg, London, Montreal, Berlin and Astana. In what is one of his first acts in the top position, Enda Kenny has slashed his own pay by €14,000. The new government has also decided to cut the pay of senior ministers. The Taoiseach’s pay is to be cut from €214,187 to €200,000. Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore’s pay is cut from €197,486 to €184,405. Ministers’ pay has been reduced to €169,275 (from €181,283), while pay for Ministers of State is cut from €139,266 to €130,042. Monaghan-based retailer Jim McConnon has been ordered to pay back 32m he borrowed from Zurich to build a shopping centre in Castleblayney. Justice George Birmingham said he could see no basis for absolving McConnon from liability to repay even though he found it bizarre that Zurich handed over the money at such speed. The judge said McConnon was not a gullible borrower and pointed out that he had already invested €10m in the project before Zurich entered the scene. Solar panel maker Suntech Power Holdings will sell half its production of solar panels in Europe in 2011 despite a withdrawal in government incentives in key markets, reports Reuters. The Labour Party members won seats in Meath East (Hannigan) and Dublin North West (Lyons).
