Eurozone production reaches two-year high

Manufacturing in the eurozone recached its highest level in more than two years in August. Markit’s Flash Composite Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) showed business activity across the eurozone picked up at a faster pace than expected, with the index rising to 51.7 from last month’s 50.5. A reading above 50 shows expansion, under 50 indicates manufacturing is contracting. The August figure was the highest since mid-2011. “If the eurozone is picking up then that bodes well for the global economy,” said Chris Williamson, Markit’s chief economist. Tesco Mobile Ireland (TMI) has doubled its customer base in two years to reach 200,000 subscribers and is now planning to open new shops and increase in-store offerings. According to TMI managing director Elaine Russell, the growth is down to its competitive offering across the pay-as-you-go and pay monthly tariffs, the range of handsets and available call credit in over 5,000 locations nationwide. Insulation and building solutions company Kingspan has reported a 6pc rise in trading profit to €55.9m on the back of a 13pc hike in revenue to €858.4m for the half year to 30 June 2013. NTR loss drops to €16.2m as it focuses on wind energy

Investor and asset manager of renewable projects NTR has reported a significantly lower loss of €16.2m for the year ended 31 March 2013, down from €88.8m the previous year. It said it had delivered the key components of its three-year strategic plan a year ahead of schedule by building cash reserves and consolidating the group into a “slimmer, renewable investment and asset management group, with a particular focus on wind energy”. The group’s total assets stand at €775m, further to it selling Greenstar Recycling for $180m as well as wind and solar assets and its remaining shareholding in ethanol producer Green Plains Renewable Energy. Members of the Ireland France Chamber of Commerce (IFCC) have seen been a modest to positive increase in business performance over the last three months, according to a new survey.
