Trust in government in Ireland has fallen by 11 points over the last 12 months according to the 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer, which also reveals that trust levels in NGOs, business and media is down over the last yar. The Trust Index, the average trust across the four institutions of business, government, NGOs and media, showed a seven point drop for Ireland to 39 points. This places Ireland as the third least trusting country of 27 surveyed. Overall trust in government in Ireland has risen 15 points to 35pc over the last year, while trust in banks has risen by three points to 9pc, according to the Irish findings of the 2012 Edelman Trust Barometer. The survey of trust in institutions across 25 countries and 30,000 people reveals that globally, trust in government now stands at 43pc, down 9pcc. This is the largest global fall in government in 12 years. Overall levels of trust in Ireland improved very marginally over the past 12 months, rising two points to 41pc. The Geminid meteor shower which started last week and hit its peak last night is set to continue tonight. For those who did not get to observe last night, the meteor show continues tonight and every night until December 20. The Geminid shower was due to peak last night, and many observers said they saw up to 100 shooting stars per hour. On Astronomy Ireland ’s Facebook page, some ‘fans’ shared their experiences of watching the spectacle last night. Plan International selects Dublin’s Salmon Software for global treasury management system

Dublin-headquartered Salmon Software has won a contract to install its Salmon Treasurer treasury management system (TMS) at global charity Plan International. The system was selected after an international tender as Plan seeks to streamline its global treasury management and reporting across 50 countries. The product, launched by BiancaMed partner Omron Healthcare, is a new wireless sleep monitoring device. The Omron Sleep Design HSL-101 uses BiancaMed technology to offer wireless, non-contact sleep monitoring, which in turn connects to healthcare support services in Japan.
