Dublin was London City Airport’s (LCA) second busiest route after Edinburgh, Scotland, in February. Passenger numbers to Dublin climbed 194pc compared to February 2014, with over 35,500 passengers travelling to Dublin through LYC. Dublin is benefitting from increased capacity as a result of new services by Flybe and British Airways, which along with the longstanding CityJet service, mean LCY now offers the most daily flights to Ireland’s capital from any UK airport. VLM to operate services from Waterford Airport to Luton and Birmingham

Flights on the Waterford-London Luton route are to resume at the end of next month, with Belgian-based VLM Airlines set to fly 12 times a week in each direction. VLM will also operate a four times a week service from Waterford to Birmingham. Last December, Flybe announced that it would be axing its service on the route on 20 March. This was the airport’s last commercial route following Flybe’s decision a couple of months earlier to cancel its service to Manchester. Apple has announced plans to build an €850m data centre in Athenry, Co Galway. The company also said it will spend another €850m on a data centre in Denmark’s central Jutland. The two centres, which represent Apple’s most significant projects in Europe to date, will operate on 100pc renewable energy and power the company’s online services, including the iTunes Store, App Store, iMessage, Maps, and Siri for customers across Europe. Passenger numbers going through Shannon Airport increased by 17pc last year, reaching 1.64 million, up from 1.4 million in 2013. The airport said this growth was achieved on the back of 10 new destinations and 16 service enhancements overall in 2014.
