FT and Goldman Sachs business book of the year longlist announced

Sixteen books have made it to the longlist for the 2012 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award from 262 entries.

This is the eighth year of the award, which “aims to recognise the business book that provides the most compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues”.

The Financial Times described the longlist as a “reading list to reflect loss of faith in capitalism”, with the state of the US economic model dominating.

The shortlist will be chosen at a judging session in September and the winner, who will receive £30,000, will be announced at an award dinner in New York on 1 November. The runners up will each receive £10,000.

The judges for the award are: Lionel Barber, editor of Financial Times; Vindi Banga of Clayton Dubilier & Rice; Lynda Gratton of London Business School; Douglas Holtz-Eakin of American Action Forum; Arthur Levitt, former chairman of SEC; Jorma Ollila of Royal Dutch Shell; and Shriti Vadera of Shriti Vadera Ltd.

The previous winnesr of the award are: 2011 – Poor Economics by Abhijit Banerjeeand Esther Duflo; 2010 – Fault Lines by Raghuram Rajan; 2009 – Lords of Finance by Liaquat Ahamed; 2008 – When Markets Collide by Mohamed El-Erian; and 2007 – The Last Tycoons by William Cohan; 2006 – China Shakes the World by James Kynge; and 2005 – Thomas Friedman’s The World is Flat.
