Dublin Chamber & Web Summit Host Workshop for SMEs

Dublin Chamber of Commerce and the Web Summit will host a one-day trading online workshop for small to medium-sized companies on the eve of Europe’s biggest tech event.

Entitled ‘Basecamp,’ the workshop will provide businesses with expert advice and insights from digital leaders at Google, PayPal, and Facebook. The event will take place at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, 29 October.

Irish consumers currently spend about €3.7bn per year online, and it is expected to grow to €5.7bn by 2016. However, only a quarter of current online sales goes to Irish businesses, and just 23pc of Irish SMEs are trading online.

International research shows that SMEs who adopt online trading grow twice as fast and export twice as much as their offline competitors.Dublin Chamber has a vested interest in helping Irish SMEs to trade online.

“Through our Activating Dublin programme we have been working on various initiatives to provide businesses with the support and expertise they need to initiate or enhance their online presence,” said Jean Hoey, director of membership at Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

“We are delighted to continue this trend by partnering with the Web Summit to offer SMEs the opportunity to learn from the experts.”

Web Summit co-founder Paddy Cosgrave added: “SMEs are the bedrock of any good startup ecosystem. It’s brilliant that we can partner with Dublin Chamber to help bring more Irish businesses into the digital world. It’s a move that will enhance their businesses and the wider Irish economy.”
