She’s famous for her saying ‘Ah Go On’, and now the former Fr Ted housekeeper aka Pauline McLynn has turned her catchphrase into a winning business idea with a range of tea cosies, called ‘GO ONS’.

On her website, McLynn says each Go On is “unique” and comes with a story as to why she made it as she did, as well as care instructions. All GO ONs are made for round-bellied tea pots and are priced between €50-€90.

McLynn says she was taught to knit by her mother when she was a child and by her grandmother “who could knock out an Aran style bobble hat in a few hours working from a ‘pattern’ in her head. Amazing! So, it’s in the genes.”

The Shameless star says she finds knitting a “very calming experience” and that the planning and buying of yarn is “entirely exciting to me – I haunt wool shops and the internet now, choosing whatever tickles my fancy. And that’s before we even get into bead buying (a whole new world for me and a delight).”

She says she intends each GO ON to look pretty and to “make someone smile” when they see it, adding that they make her happy, and have the added benefit of keeping your tea warm.

This new enterprise ties in McLynn’s latest novel: Jenny Q, Stitched Up, which is about a teenager who loves knitting, which features knitting patterns at the back of the book.

McLynn says she is working on on the “Autumn/Winter collection” currently and there’ll be ‘sparklies’ especially for the December Festive Season.
