Continental Tyres in sponsorship deal with FAI to support women’s football

Continental Tyres is to become a partner of women’s football in Ireland further a deal secured with and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).

Continental has been named as the title sponsor of the Women’s National League which will be rebranded as the Continental Tyres Women’s National League, kicking off on 24 August.

The company will also lend its name to the Continental Tyres Women’s FAI Cup, the Continental Tyres Women’s Senior FAI Cup and the FAI’s Elite Camps that foster the development of emerging football talent.

Continental Tyres has been an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro Championship and is the official partner of women’s football in England and title sponsor of the Continental Cup.

“Just as in many countries across Europe, women’s football in Ireland is a booming strand of the sport and we are keen that our support will reach out to new players at the community level so as to encourage more young girls to get involved”, said Guy Frobisher, Continental Tyres marketing director for region north.

Working with football and fitness experts, Continental has developed a free online coaching resource called ContiWarmUp ( that has already been endorsed by the FA in England and the company hopes to roll out the resource to coaches here in Ireland, in particular, those involved in women’s football.

John Delaney, CEO of the Football Association of Ireland, a lot of work had been done to grow participation numbers at all levels that had “paid real dividends” through the FAI’s Women’s Football Development plan.

The Continental support for women’s football in Ireland will be underpinned by the strapline: ‘Getting you to the game safely’ and the company will be using the sponsorship to spread the word in relation to the importance of tyre safety.
