Setanta Ireland is set to become the first Irish channel to broadcast in high definition when it launches Setenta HD tomorrow (Saturday 27 November).

The channel’s first day of live HD content will include Man United v Blackburn at 3pm, the second round of the FA Cup, Wales v New Zealand in international rugby and Juventus v Fiorentina.

Setanta HD launches exclusively on UPC’s HD service and will be available from Saturday on UPC channel 412.

“We announced in September that we would commence broadcasting in HD by Jan 2011, and with the help of UPC we are delighted to be able to start ahead of schedule,” said Colin Morgan, CEO of Setanta Sports.

“We look forward to broadcasting great sports in HD including Barclays Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League, along with all 48 games in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.  Having recently secured GAA rights for three more years, we are especially looking forward to broadcasting the national game in HD for the first time from February.”
