McDonald’s opens new €3m Kilkenny restaurant, creating 60 new jobs

McDonald’s Restaurants of Ireland today officially opened its new ‘drive-thru’ restaurant on Hebron Road on the outskirts of Kilkenny City.

McDonald’s has invested €3m into the new development and created 60 new jobs.

Irish and Leinster Rugby player Sean O’Brien was on hand to officially open the new outlet.

The new restaurant will replace the existing McDonald’s restaurant on Patrick St, Kilkenny, which closed earlier this year. Themed ‘Spirit of Family’, it features self-order kiosks, Samsung Galaxy tablets, an interior play area and a birthday party room, and is the first of its kind in Ireland.

The delivery of the new 60 jobs is the latest phase in McDonald’s expansion plans and commitment to creating 700 new jobs and open 12 new restaurants, investing over €20m in McDonald’s Ireland by the end of 2015.

“We are delighted to officially open the new ‘Spirit of Family’ restaurant and we have had a great response from local customers so far,” said McDonald’s Kilkenny owner-operator Chris Pim.

“The design of the restaurant is focused on family and creating a new experience for McDonald’s customers. The opening of the restaurant has created a real buzz in the local area with the McDonald’s team in Kilkenny expanding to 100 employees. We are delighted to welcome 60 new enthusiastic local staff to our team and look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to the restaurant.”

McDonald’s Ireland MD Adrian Crean added: “McDonald’s is pleased to deliver 60 new jobs in Kilkenny with the opening of our new ‘Spirit of the Family’ restaurant. We are committed to delivering on our expansion plans, investing €20m, opening 12 new restaurants and creating 700 new jobs by the end of 2015. The more restaurants we open, the more Irish produce we need to source and buy for our restaurants, which is good news not only for our Irish suppliers but also the Irish economy.”

The new McDonald’s restaurant in Kilkenny will bring the total number of McDonald’s restaurants in Ireland to 84, with a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees.
