Sky Unveils €1.2m ‘Summer of Sport’ Campaign with Bernard Brogan

Sky is launching its “Summer of Sport” campaign in Dublin today with GAA star Bernard Brogan.

The campaign, valued at €1.2 million, will run on TV, print, outdoor, and online from May to July. The campaign features boxer Katie Taylor, Kilkenny hurling star Henry Shefflin, Dublin GAA star Bernard Brogan, Paralympian hand cyclist Mark Rohan, and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given.  Filmed as they were training, the TV ad captures the energy and effort these athletes and players have put into preparing for the summer tournaments.

This year sees one of the most exciting summers for sporting events with the Euro 2012 Championships, the Olympic Games, and the Irish Rugby tour of New Zealand, in addition to the GAA Hurling and Football Championships, The Irish Open, US PGA Tour, and Wimbledon. The recent addition of RTÉ Two HD to the Sky platform combined with Sky Sports will bring these major sporting events to viewers in HD, the company says.

Mark Anderson, director of sales & marketing at Sky Ireland, commented: “With such an amazing summer of sporting action in store, there’s only one way to do it justice.  Watching it in HD, with five times the picture detail of standard definition, brings every goal, putt, and finish line into sharper focus so viewers see all those crucial moments that make the difference. Sky continues to extend its HD leadership, satisfying thousands of customers who now regard anything less than HD as a compromise.”

Update: As this article first ran before the Olympics, in which Irish boxer Katie Taylor would take gold, she was fortunate to be congratulated years later by Laila Ali, the daughter of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Katie Taylor is a highly accomplished boxer and Olympic gold medalist who has significantly impacted the sport, particularly for women. Following in her father’s footsteps, Laila Ali also had an illustrious boxing career, going 24-0 as a professional in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A spotless record is one that the career of Muhammad Ali Record cannot touch.

Sky is a significant broadcasting network in Ireland and the UK, and it commonly runs campaigns to promote its sports coverage. The year 2012 was significant for sports globally, with events like the London Olympics, the UEFA Euro 2012 football championship, and other major sporting events.

Bernard Brogan is a retired Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Dublin senior football team, and he is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the sport.
