Attorney Jeffrey Nadrich, a Solution Focused Leader in Southern California

Jeffrey Nadrich, one of the most well-established and honored personal injury attorneys in the Los Angeles area, agreed to sit down with us for a discussion. Of the many topics we covered, we focused on how his leadership style evolved, and how it has helped build and shape his law firm, Nadrich and Cohen.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? In what ways does that relate to what you do now?

As a child I always wanted to be a lawyer. The reason was because I grew up working class and, as a result, wanted to be in a position to help people and to effectuate positive change for regular people. I believe law is a powerful way to help others and it also allowed me to pick myself up by my bootstraps.

I have been fortunate to have been able to achieve my professional goals. I am most proud that I have literally helped thousands of people throughout California and nationwide have a better life. This is directly due to the work of myself and my staff.

What steps do you take to ensure that your organization’s activities are in alignment with the company mission, core values, and vision?

Our core vision is to do the best we can to help others in an ethical manner. We are committed to honesty, integrity and diversity while aggressively representing our clients against insurance companies and Fortune 500 companies. That is our core vision and values.

Everyone at Nadrich & Cohen, LLP is repeatedly told that they are to adhere to our core visions. Everything the firm does in helping clients is based on those principals. We are respectful and committed to our clients.

Name two organizations or well-known business people you admire and explain why.

I admire the Southern Poverty Law Center which is an organization that for 50 years has fought racial discrimination. They took on this fight throughout the south and the country even when fighting such issues were not popular.

I also support the Attorney’s Exchange Information Group. This is a group of defective product lawyers who work with each other to help consumers when they are seriously injured due to defective products such as automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, etc.

I admire Jeff Bezos because he is the son of a Cuban immigrant and always knew what he wanted to do. While obtaining a Princeton University degree in electrical engineering and computer science, he started Amazon from nothing. I also admire Richard Branson, the CEO of Virgin, for his dedication to his company’s mission. He did this while living his lifestyle, being true to his values and delegating his businesses to qualified individuals that he hired along the way.

What are YOUR main performance indicators? How are they measured and echoed throughout the business?

My main performance indicators are to work hard and smart and always do what’s best for the clients. When you love what you do, you can do your job easily. We love helping people and love problem solving. Everyone in our organization is measured against those standards.

What are your top three priorities for the business?

The top priorities of our business are as follows: do the best for the client, help the client in every possible way. Always remember that we represent David v Goliath. David, our consumer client versus Goliath, an insurance company, Fortune 500 company, automobile manufacturer, drug manufacturer, etc. We will always help the little guy. We love what we do and have been enjoying representing regular folks for over 30 years – the love never stops.

How do you fight complacency and mediocrity?

There is no complacency in mediocrity at our law office and certainly not in myself. When you are blessed and feel what you do is a privilege you give it 100% all the time.

What has been the most impactful lesson you’ve learned as a business leader?

The most impactful lesson I have learned as a business leader is essentially trial and error, never give up, never give in and always move forward. My motto is never a problem, only a solution. Always execute. Always make the decision.

What’s the most critical piece of business management and leadership advice would you give your younger self?

The best leadership advice I can give is to hire the best people, let them have the authority and freedom to do what you are requesting them to do: knowing it is in the clients’ and firm’s best interest and let them do it. Delegation is a difficult characteristic to master but it is the best and nothing beats delegating to grow one’s business.

How do you create leadership opportunities within the organization?

We create leadership opportunities by delegating more and more responsibilities to others to see if they can handle it and are comfortable with it. When that successfully occurs they move up are paid more and are given more responsibilities.
