Tennessee in the US signs wind energy MOU with Clean Line Energy
Alta Wind Farm depiction in the US
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is embracing wind energy, after advocating a US$3.5bn transmission line project that will transport wind energy from the Oklahoma Panhandle region to south-eastern states via Arkansas, but final approval is needed from the elected commissioners. It would appear to be a timely move, seeing as US President Barack Obama has declared October Energy Action month in the US.
TVA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Houston, Texas-based Clean Line Energy, following the latter's proposal to build a direct current transmission line to move wind power from the Oklahoma Panhandle region to Memphis, Tennessee.
The proposed project will mean a transmission line will span across Oklahoma and Arkansas, eventually providing wind energy to south-eastern states.
Apparently, commission staff and an administration law judge have approved the project application, but they are still waiting on approval from the elected commissioners.
TVA is a government-owned corporation that supplies electricity to nine million people in seven south-eastern states of the US.
