We profile 14 of Ireland’s top golf resorts and what they offer in the way of membership and even luxury property.
One of its two courses, the Old Links was refined by Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo.

Perched on the stunning Inishowen peninsula, Ballyliffin Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest links resorts. It features two outstanding courses, the Old Links, which was refined by Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo, and the highly acclaimed Glashedy Links, which was created by Pat Ruddy and the late Tom Craddock and opened in 1995.
Faldo fell in love with the course on his first visit in 1993, describing the Old Links as the “most natural golf course” he had ever seen. The three-time Masters champion was so impressed that he attempted to purchase the complex several years later and while his offer was politely turned down, he returned with his design company to complete a major upgrade to the Old Links, which reopened to general acclaim in June 2006.
The newer Glashedy Links, which wends its way through the dunes and is notorious for its peat-riveted bunkers, hosted the 2002 North West of Ireland Open on the European Tour as well as the Irish Ladies Open.
Quite apart from its spectacular setting, both courses are considered two of the finest links tests in Ireland and the addition of the four-star Ballyliffin Lodge to the village has firmly established the resort on the discerning golfer’s A list.
