The second volume of Great Irish Brands magazine supplement, commissioned by the Irish Independent in November 2008.
A true Irish icon, Jameson’s smooth flavour has earned universal acclaim and elevated it to the ranks of the world’s favourite spirits, as well as being one of Ireland’s most successful exports.

The brand story
John Jameson established his distillery in Dublin in 1780, determined that he would create the finest whiskey in the world.
He was a fearless entrepreneur who overturned convention and would settle only for excellence. Today, Jameson is the No 1 selling Irish whiskey in the world, a consistent award winner and a top-10 global whiskey brand.
Loved for its great smooth taste and relaxed open style, Jameson is enjoyed in over 120 countries globally.
The Old Jameson Distillery visitor centre in Smithfield marks the site of the original distillery and has welcomed over two million visitors since it opened its doors in 1997.
Innovation and development
Innovation has been the cornerstone of Jameson’s success since 1780. John Jameson insisted upon the purest crystal-clear water, the finest strains of barley, careful triple distillation and maturation for many years in sherry-seasoned oak casks to create his signature whiskey.
Growing worldwide demand for Jameson prompted a move to a new custom-built distillery in Midleton, Co Cork in 1975, where modern technologies, complete control of the production process from grain to glass and adherence to John Jameson’s principles ensured production of the finest-quality whiskey.
Master Distiller Barry Crockett continues this great distilling tradition today, as Jameson continues to invest in the expansion of its distilling, maturation and bottling capacity to meet accelerating global demand.
Product range
Jameson is an exceptionally smooth Irish whiskey, whose character remains true to the pot-still whiskey tradition laid down by John Jameson in the 18th century.
2007 saw the launch of the Jameson Reserves Collection, with four limited premium whiskeys, each crafted to bring an individual stamp of smoothness, complexity and distinction. Distinguished via age, blend and casks, each of the whiskeys — Jameson 12 Year Old Special Reserve, Jameson Gold Reserve, Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve and Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve — are a product of the craftsmanship, heritage and passion that is synonymous with the Jameson brand.
Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve is the most exclusive bottling to date — hand selected by David Quinn, Master of Whiskey Science — representing the ultimate in distilling excellence, and the pinnacle of the Jameson family.
Marketing and promotion
Jameson is a huge investor worldwide in advertising, sponsorship and sampling activity. Advertising focuses on Jameson’s premium quality and easygoing style, and is used to build brand awareness among young, professional urban consumers.
Jameson is title sponsor of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, and a sponsor of such fun-filled film events as the Jameson Empire Awards (UK), Sydney's Tropfest and Spain’s Jameson Notodo FilmFest.
Jameson’s smooth flavour and versatility means it mixes well with a range of soft drinks. The ‘Mix it Up’ crew are a regular feature in trendy bars around Ireland, along with the world’s coolest cities, inviting consumers to sample Jameson with their favourite mixer.
