Since The Marketing Institute of Ireland launched the All-Ireland Marketing Awards just last year, it has become the biggest event in the nation's marketing calendar. The 2008 awards ceremony took place on 22 May at Citywest Hotel, and drew over 800 marketing professionals from all over the country to hear the announcement of the winners. These 'Oscars' for the marketing profession were announced on stage by veteran RTÉ news anchorman Bryan Dobson. They are a celebration of marketing achievement throughout the country, and across all of the key disciplines of marketing. The institute is delighted to have had the Irish Independent on board once again as our media partner.
Our guest of honour, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan TD, congratulated all of the finalists on their achievements, and underlined the role of marketing as a cornerstone of success in business. And importantly, she highlighted the link between the marketing skill of Irish firms and the broader performance of the economy, a theme that will be amplified in the period ahead.
The institute was particularly pleased with the big uplift in the number of entries received in this second year of the programme, and the quality was so high that we increased the number of finalist places from four to five across every award category. The shortlisted finalists were selected from hundreds of entries, and then each one was met in person by an expert adjudication panel to hear about their marketing successes at first hand.
The Marketing Institute of Ireland has a strategic role in acting as the champion of our profession. We are committed to ensuring that marketing plays its full role in safeguarding the future economic performance of our island in the years ahead. Against the backdrop of increasing global competition and challenges, it is essential that we have role models to look up to, and these are to be found among the finalists in the All-Ireland Marketing Awards. You'll find all the details of the finalists and winners at www.aimawards.ie.
On behalf of everyone at The Marketing Institute of Ireland, may I heartily congratulate all of our 2008 award winners.
Comhgairdeas, agus go n-éirí an bóthar libh go léir.
