We've picked out some of the best luxury destinations that Ireland now has to offer.
It offers 200 guest rooms, including 124 suites and 23 club level rooms.

Description: Opened in October, probably the most unbeatable element of the salubrious new five-star hotel is its location - settings don't come much more impressive than the magnificent Powerscourt Estate, one of the most beautiful in Ireland. The sun was shining the day we visited, offering wonderful views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain from the impressive lobby and the signature Gordon Ramsay restaurant. It was early November, but several elegantly dressed smokers were braving the wintery sunshine on the large terrace that leads from the restaurant, significantly increasing its capacity in summer, weather permitting.
The Ritz-Carlton offers 200 guest rooms, including 124 suites and 23 club level rooms. With an average floor size of 700sq ft, the rooms feel airy and luxurious, with the kind of opulent furnishings you would expect from a Ritz-Carlton. Many have views of the Sugar Loaf, and every comfort is offered, including signature linens and featherbeds, marble baths and Bulgari products, recessed TV in the bathroom mirrors, fully stocked honour bar, and (we loved this) touchscreen panels for controlling lighting, curtains and air-conditioning from the comfort of your bed.
Food & wine: The signature Gordon Ramsay Restaurant is getting rave reviews, but you'll pay for the privilege. Ramsay is unlikely to appear much in person with the exception of fleeting visits, but the 89-seat restaurant is ably overseen by Dubliner Paul Carroll, who worked with Ramsay in London for five years. There's a spacious terrace for al fresco dining weather permitting, two private dining rooms and a Chef's Table in the kitchen. Apparently there's a waiting list for weekend dining. Food is also served in the Sugar Loaf Lounge at lobby level and McGill's traditional Irish pub. The former serves afternoon tea to the accompaniment of a harpist - and non-residents are encouraged in. There was quite a buzz there when we visited.
Golf & outdoor pursuits: Guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Powerscourt can avail of the 36-hole Powerscourt Golf Club, again set in the rolling hills of the Powerscourt Estate, the latter offering splendid walks. And, no need to remind you that you're in the Garden of Ireland, just beyond the estate walls is every outdoor pursuit imaginable.
Pampering: The elaborate two-storey Espa features a frankly stunning 20-metre Swarovski crystal-lit pool, as well as an exercise room and thermal suite. There are 20 treatment rooms, including two private Spa Suites, and a Spa Café for those going for all-day treatments who don't feel like slipping out of their luxurious gowns. The use of natural materials like stone, slate and wood creates a very mellow atmosphere.
As we could not disturb those guests who were relaxing, we're told the relaxation areas, hot pools and saunas, all on the upper storey, offer superb views again of the Sugar Loaf, as does the impressively equipped downstairs gym.
Accolades/recommendations: Sit back and watch them roll in.
Of note: The Presidential Suite offers 2,500sq ft of accommodation, with two bedrooms, a private dining room, private rooftop garden, a plunge pool and panoramic views of the estate. If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
