Irish designer brand VSL to be stocked in Harrods
Vikki Shorten
After just over a year in business VSL Jewelry owned by Irish designer Vikki Shorten has signed a deal to have its signature collection stocked in Harrods of London.
This is a significant achievement, considering that up to 250,000 people walk through the doors of the London department store every day.
“Obviously it’s a tough climate for any business these days, especially a new small business such as ours, but I’m really pleased that the hard work of the team at VSL has paid off,” said Shorten, who also managed to find time to appear on Come Dine with Me Ireland.
“We’ve been working for over a year, travelling back and forth to London and now we look forward to working with Harrods to promote the brand and make it a success with both our businesses.”
The VSL brand received remarkable exposure during 2011, having been seen worn by Tulisa on the X Factor, Paris Hilton, Rhianna and by Britney Spears during her ‘Femme Fatale’ tour.
This year will see the brand will expand its foothold in both the US and Europe, while also adding new ranges to the collection, according to Shorten.
“The fashion world, especially in the US is very celebrity driven so I started out contacting stylists and then launched in Los Angelus in April 2011 and again invited all the celeb stylists,” she said.
“Many of us met again and through this and the support of the media I started designing for Fergie for the Black Eyed Peas World Tour 2011 and it went from there really. It is now perceived as the up-coming Irish brand in the US and has been recently taken on by Fred Segal’s, which is a high end department store in LA.”
