Estelle Cotter, founder and managing director, Energyquarter

Founded by Estelle Cotter in Co Meath in 2009, energy efficiency web business Energyquarter.ie has expanded its services into tailored audio-visual production.

The company’s aim is to bring renewable energy news and energy conservation information to customers through its website, together with YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

The site offers advice to consumers on how to improve energy efficiency and comfort in their homes, while at the same time improving the environment.

In response to feedback from website visitors, Energyquarter initially undertook a series of 15-minute videos called `Passive House’, which explain the fundamentals of building an ultra-low energy home.

The company now works with a wide range of companies within the renewable energy and construction sectors, producing audio-visual material tailored to their needs.

“Our aim is to make energy conservation in buildings interesting to a diverse age group, not just to those with an interest in construction,” said Cotter.

“We have had a phenonomenal response to our first set of topical videos with over 24,000 YouTube hits.”

Over the past number of years, an increasing number of homeowners have invested in improving the energy efficiency of their homes.

More than 284,000 grants for energy efficiency measures have been paid out through the SEAI Better Energy Homes Schemes.

With over 1 million homes estimated to require energy improvements, interest in this area is expected to grow considerably.  In response to this, Energyquarter is currently working on a new regular video series which will employ a light-hearted, interactive style, according to Cotter.
