Ryanair has announced it is to open its 40th base at Kaunas in Lithuania this May.
The new base will be the budget airline’s first in central Europe. It will base two aircraft there, which will fly 18 routes, nine of which will be new routes.
Ryanair claimed that the new base would deliver up to one million passengers to Kaunas airport each year and that the 120 or so weekly Ryanair flights would sustain 1,000 jobs at the airport.
Ryanair also confirmed today that it is in “continuous negotiation” with four other central European airports to open bases.
