The UK and Ireland cinema operator Cineworld is considering expanding its operations in Ireland because people here go the movies more often than in the UK.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Cineworld CEO Stephen Wiener said people in Ireland go to the cinema “significantly” more often than people in the UK.
Wiener said the company was in discussions on several sites in Ireland and that plans had not been finalised.
Cineworld has one cinema in Ireland on Parnell St in Dublin city centre.
Last month, the cinema operator said it had confidence that it would deliver continued growth for the full year in line with market expectations.
Cineworld said the second half of the year has so far seen a number of strong-performing films including Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Ice Age 3 in 3D, The Hangover and Up in 3D.
The final quarter of the year features a “promising” film line-up including 2012, A Christmas Carol, The Twilight Saga – New Moon, St Trinian’s 2, Sherlock Holmes and James Cameron’s eagerly awaited Avatar (pictured), the company said.
