French consumer confidence rose to its highest level since December 2007 during November, official figures have shown.
According to the monthly report from the French statistics office INSEE, the confidence of French consumers rose to -30, up from a forecast of -34 predicted by economists polled by Reuters.
After historically low confidence since 2008, the INSEE said French consumers are now back to the slack levels of the past 15 years as measured in 1995, 1996 and 2005.
French households are now more confident about the past and future general economic situation, as well as their own economic situation, the INSEE said.
The statistics office also noted that its data collection took place before the French national soccer team qualified for the World Cup in 2010. If qualification has an effect on consumer confidence, it will be measured next month, the office said.
