The Odlums mill in Cork city is to cease production this September with the loss of 27 jobs.
According to RTE News, Odlums, which operates flour and oatmeal mills, said its decision to close its Cork mill was due to increased competition resulting from excess milling capacity in the UK.
Following the closure of its Cork mill, Odlums, which is owned by food and agri business Origin Enterprises, will have two flour mills in operation in Ireland – one in Dublin and the other in Portarlington, Co Laois.
The company plans to invest €10m into these sites to improve efficiencies, which will result in the loss of a further six jobs.
Odlums has been milling and packing flour in Ireland for over 160 years, since the Odlums family opened its first mill in Portlaoise in 1845.
