US entertainment giant Disney has sold its Miramax film studio to a group of private investors for some US$660m .
Filmyard Holdings bought Miramax, which is the stable for award-winning movies such as The English Patient, No Country for Old Men, Pulp Fiction, The Queen, Kill Bill Volumes I & II, Good Will Hunting and Chocolat.
“Although we are very proud of Miramax's many accomplishments, our current strategy for Walt Disney Studios is to focus on the development of great motion pictures under the Disney, Pixar and Marvel brands,” Disney chief executive Robert Iger said in a statement.
Earlier this week, Disney announced it was buying the social-gaming company Playdom, for US$563.2m, making a resounding statement that the company intends to be a major force in the computer game industry globally, especially in social gaming.
