The Irish Times has appointed Liam Kavanagh as its new managing director, replacing former MD Maeve Donovan who recently retired from the top role at the paper.
Kavanagh has worked at the Irish Times since 2000 when he joined as chief financial officer.
He was appointed to the paper’s board in 2001 as finance director and company secretary, and has held the position of deputy managing editor since 2005.
Before joining the Irish Times, Kavanagh worked with KPMG and the Jefferson Smurfit Group, where he was finance director for Smurfit Ireland.
“Liam Kavanagh brings exceptional experience and skills to his new role as managing director. The board and I are delighted with his appointment and look forward with confidence to his leadership of the company in the current challenging economic climate,” said Irish Times Chairman David Went.
