Pat Quinn, the founder of Quinnsworth, has passed away in Toronto, Canada.
Quinn (72) was one of Ireland’s best-known businessmen in the Sixties and Seventies, having established the first Quinnsworth store in the Stillorgan shopping centre in Dublin in 1966.
He is credited with inventing the phrase ‘yellow pack’ to describe his supermarket’s cut-price own brands.
Having sold his interest in the Quinnsworth group to Galen Weston’s Associated British Foods in the Seventies, Quinn eventually left Ireland during the recession in the Eighties for Canada.
He is survived by his wife Ann and his seven children.
