The Financial Regulator has fined two related insurance companies a total of 22,500 for suspected failures by the firms to comply with the consumer-protection code.
The financial watchdog fined Pat Treacy Insurance Brokers Limited of 261 Crumlin Road in Dublin €15,000, and Quick Quotes Limited, also of the same address, over breaches in compliance with theConsumer Protection Code.
The breaches at both companies related in particular to the sale of general insurance products to customers, including the sale of motor insurance and household insurance.
Breaches included the firms overcharging fees, although the regulator said it did not believe the actions of either company were deliberate.
The Financial Regulator said no client of the firm had made a direct complaint to it in relation to the suspected breaches.
Both Pat Treacy Insurance Brokers and Quick Quotes co-operated fully with the examination, the regulator said, and the matter is now closed.
