Pay cuts in the public-sector dominated the newspapers over the weekend, with the latest report by the body investigating public-sector pay recommending cuts of up to 15pc for top public servants.
The Sunday Business Post reported over the weekend that the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector has recommended pay cuts ranging from 8pc to 15pc for senior public-sector workers, with the average recommendation for cuts coming in at between 8pc and 10pc.
The paper says that the report recommends that senior employees in universities, the Labour Court and the Labour Relations Commission should have their pay cut by up to 8pc.
The terms of the reference for the Review Body is to examine and advise the Government on the levels of remuneration currently appropriate to certain posts in the public sector with regard to changes in economic circumstances and to pay levels in the private sector.
According to reports, the report by the body was delivered to the Department of Finance several weeks ago.
As preparations for the December budget continue to ramp up, the report will form one more part of the Government’s arsenal as it seeks to cut €1.3bn from the public-sector pay bill.
The Government is set to begin another week of talks with unions about saving money in the public sector this week.
