O’Briens Sandwich Bars, which entered examinership in July, told franchisees yesterday that it had secured new investment for the business from a company called AIL Ltd, whose shareholders are businessmen Graeme Beere and Denis Desmond.
As the Irish Times has reported, Beere runs the Abrakebabra, Gourmet Burger and Bagel Factory franchises, and Desmond is the founder of promoter MCD.
O’Briens founder and chairman Brody Sweeney told franchisees that AIL will take ownership and management of the chain in the Republic and he will continue to take responsibility for the firm’s UK business.
The chain has some 85 franchise outlets in Ireland, employing some 800 people.
O’Briens has a total of 220 outlets in 13 countries.
