A national competition for start-up companies, with a 15,000 advertising and communications package as the first prize, has been launched by 4FM, the Sunday Business Post and Unique Media.
The “Doing it for themselves” national competition is open to entrepreneurs who have set up a company or an ongoing local business initiative within the last 12 months. Local charity, community and ‘not for profit’ initiatives are also invited to participate.
The winner of the competition will receive a radio advertising package to be run on 4FM, a print ad package in the Sunday Business Post and a tailored communications campaign by Unique Media.
Applications, which have to be submitted by 10 August, will be whittled down to a shortlist of five entrepreneurs who will be interviewed by a panel of judges before the overall winner is decided. The judging panel is made up of Senator Feargal Quinn, founder of Superquinn, Tanya Airey, managing director of Sunway Travel, Martin Block, CEO of 4FM and Richard Curran, deputy editor of the Sunday Business Post.
To enter, applicants should write an essay of up to 500 words explaining why their initiative is an inspiring and positive example of ‘people doing it for themselves’.
The overall winner and two runners-up, who will each receive a radio advertising package worth €1,500, will be announced in September 2009.
