Bord Gáis Energy has today announced its three-year headline sponsorship agreement with the Irish Book Awards.
The company said the partnership is part of its overall strategy to promote the importance and enjoyment of reading to people of all ages. In addition to the awards, a national reading promotion will be launched across Ireland in April 2010 to further celebrate this new partnership.
“The new Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards brings together a dynamic and popular Irish brand and one of the great success stories in the arts sector of recent years,” said David Bunworth, Managing Director atBord Gáis Energy. “We are excited about becoming the title sponsor of the Irish Book Awards and look forward to unveiling news of our unique reading promotion later this year.”
Alastair Giles, CEO of the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards, said the partnership was “a wonderful match of tradition and vision”. “We are thrilled to ally with an Irish company that has such a nationally recognised and respected brand,” he said. “There is no doubt that, with Bord Gáis Energy as a headline sponsor, we will be able to reach out to a potentially huge new audience.”
This year, the awards will be presented in November rather than their usual spring date. According to the organisers, the later date will provide a true reflection of each year's best Irish books, as chosen by the public.
Submissions are now being accepted and every publisher in Ireland has been invited to nominate books for the nine publicly voted categories.
