Beyoncé and Jay-Z put in a patent application for the name of their daughter - Blue Ivy – on 26 January.
It’s understood that by the time the new parents filed their application, just three weeks after the birth of their first child on 7 January, the US Patent and Trademark Office had already turned down two other trademark applications for the name.
The Washington Post reports that fashion designer Joseph Mbeh applied to trademark ‘Blue Ivy Carter NYC’ on 11 January, while another application was submitted on 20 January for ‘Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV’ to use on a line of fragrances.
The applications were rejected by the patent office, which said the name belonged to a ‘very famous infant’ and that people would assume that any products with her name would imply the endorsement of her parents.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have published five photos of the new baby on a Tumblr blog entitled Hello Blue Ivy Carter.
