Majority of UK Facebook users over 45 are considering exiting - survey

More than half of UK Facebook members over the age of 45 are considering leaving the social network, according to a survey carried out by OnePoll for Marketing magazine.

Some 46pc of the 1,300 adults surveyed by OnePoll said they had recently considered ending their membership of Facebook. This figure rose to just over 50pc among the over 45s.

More than 50pc of men said they had thought about leaving, while 39pc of women said they had done so.

The survey also found that privacy is an issue for all age groups, with 58pc of respondents indicating that they were concerned about how their personal information is used by Facebook. This rose to 65pc for over the over 45 age group.

Last week, Inside Facebook claimed that the number of US Facebook users fell by 6 million during May to 149.4 million, while Canada’s Facebook membership dropped by 1.52m users. It said the UK, Norway and Russia all posted losses of more than 100,000 Facebook users.
