Bee Gees member Robin Gibb is lined up as the guest speaker at the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) annual conference, which takes place on Tuesday 20 April 2010.

Gibb, who is president of the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies, will talk about the rights of music creators in a digital age.

Fittingly, the theme of the conference, which is being sponsored by IMRO, is ‘Radio: Stayin’ Alive’.

More than 100 independent radio station owners, senior management, broadcasters and their guests are expected to attend the event, which is being held in the Radisson Hotel on Golden Lane in Dublin 8 between 9am and 2pm. The conference will be opened by Willie O’Reilly, chairman, IBI, and Victor Finn, CEO, IMRO.

Other speakers will include David Sneddon, managing director of Mindshare, who will talk about how media agencies work, plan and audit; John Stockley, Ipsos Global Media, and Damien Loscher, Ipsos mrbi, who will discuss technology and the future of radio research; and Heather Ostertag, president and CEO of the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR), who will talk about music and broadcasting industries working in partnership, focusing on the Canadian model.

The event will conclude with a panel discussion led by DIT’s Dr Kevin Rafter on the Regulator’s position and the public perception on political advertising. Panel members will include Liz McManus, TD, Mandy Johnson, former government press secretary, and Ian Young, Irish International.
