Mobile search ad revenues in Western Europe are set to increase from €39m in 2008 to €2.3bn in 2013, according to a new forecast from The Kelsey Group.
This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 125.4pc.
Revenues for the local segment of mobile search will increase from €18m in 2008 to €1.4bn in 2013, a 139.3pc CAGR. Mobile display ad revenues for the region will grow from €14m in 2008 to 1.1bn in 2013, a 138.3pc CAGR.
A comparison with Kelsey’s US mobile ad forecast released earlier this year shows Western Europe is ahead of the US in adopting and monetising mobile local media, primarily due to the greater number of mobile handsets in the region—499 million in 2008, compared with 266 million in the United States.
“In addition to the higher number of mobile subscribers in the region, rapid proliferation of smartphones is helping drive the growth in mobile advertising,” said Michael Boland, programme director for Kelsey’s mobile local media practice. “Our forecast indicates the number of smartphones in Western Europe will grow at a 35.7pc CAGR during the forecast period, from €32m in 2008 to €149m in 2013.”
The countries included in the regional forecast for Western Europe were France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
