James Bond actor Daniel Craig has reportedly closed a deal to play investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the Hollywood version of the late Swedish crime author Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Deadline Hollywood reports that the Craig deal also factors in options for two sequels based on the final two books in Larsson’s Millenium trilogy - The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest.
The director of Se7en, David Fincher, is set to direct the US version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
As to who will play computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the US films, Deadline reports that casting is currently underway, with candidates including Ellen Page (Juno, Inception), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Sara Snook (Sleeping Beauty), Rooney Mara (The Social Network) and Sophie Lowe (Blame).
The Swedish version of the first book in the Millenium trilogy was released in Irish cinemas earlier this year, with the sequel The Girl Who Played with Fire due to open on 27 August.
