In 1990 Frisky Rimington, a real purrfessional, was catapulted to fame after beating 5,000 other cats to the role of chief prowler and pigeon aggravator on the opening credits of Coronation Street. For 11 years the feline could be seen crouching on top of Jack Duckworth’s pigeon coop as a trumpet played and the camera swept across the Manchester rooftops.
Over the years Frisky embraced stardom, putting his fame to good use by raising thousands of pounds for charity through numerous celebrity appearances.
Catastrophe struck in 2000 when Frisky, aged 14, passed away, although his image continued to grace our screens for another year.
However, one lucky Corrie fan will get to keep a little bit of TV history on Thursday. Frisky’s ashes, sealed in a wooden casket, will be put up for sale at Dominic Winter Auctions in Gloucestershire, where they are expected to fetch between £150 and £200.
“Frisky was not only a much loved family pet but also captured the heart of the nation and made thousands of pounds for charities. We were very proud to be his owners and we are keen to keep his memory alive,” said John Rimington, Frisky’s owner.
