Trinity academic Dr Constantin Gurdgiev has been appointed as economic adviser to the Irish Exporters Association (IEA).
On making the announcement, the CEO of the IEA John Whelan said the association saw Dr Gurdgiev’s appointment as “an important aspect of its drive to ensure new and innovative thinking is brought to bear on solutions to Ireland’s export difficulties, and to better align the organisations policy proposals to meet the changing characteristics of international trade”.
Dr Gurdgiev is a fellow of a number of academic associations and a member of the editorial board of nine international academic journals in the fields of economics, law and business. He also serves as a member of the advisory board of the Essential Innovation Forum and a member of the Executive Panel of McKinsey&Co.
In the past, he served as a Group Editor and Director of Business & Finance Publications, Head of Global Strategy and Research with Heinz Associates, and Director of Research with NCB Stockbrokers.
Dr Gurdgiev holds a PhD in Macroeconomics and Finance from Trinity College, Dublin, an MA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University (USA) and an MA in Pure Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
In 1998-2000, he was awarded a Millennium Scholarship Award from the University of Chicago. In 2000-2004, he was the holder of the Whatley Award from the Trinity College, Dublin.
Dr Gurdgiev writes regular columns for Business & Finance magazine, Village magazine and frequently contributes to the Irish edition of the Sunday Times. He also writes a daily economics and finance blog www.trueeconomics.blogspot.com.
