Two directors appointed to Enactus Ireland board

Brian O’Gorman of Arthur Cox and George O’Connor of Enterprise Rent-A-Car have been appointed to the board of Enactus Ireland, the Irish branch of the university-based partnership between business and higher education for social change.

The appointments are effective immediately.

O’Gorman is currently managing partner of Arthur Cox.  A law graduate of Trinity College Dublin, he spent some years in London and Hong Kong with a leading international law firm and leading international investment bank before returning to Dublin in 1999 to join Arthur Cox, where he was appointed partner in 2000.

O’Connor is managing director of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Ireland.  A graduate of DIT Business School, he joined Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s management training programme in Boston in 1994.  When the first branch of Enterprise Rent-A-Car opened in Ireland in 1997, he returned to Dublin as branch rental manager.  He held some senior positions in the company before taking on his current role in 2008.

In their roles as directors, they will support the chairperson of Enactus Ireland and other board members in developing this programme in Ireland.  Founded in the United States in 1975, Enactus (previously known as SIFE – Students in Free Enterprise) is an international, not-for-profit organisation that encourages university students to make a positive difference to their communities, while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders of the future. Ireland was the 39th country to join Enactus.

“Both directors bring a wealth of skills and experience to the board and the programme,” said Terence O’Rourke, Enactus Ireland chairperson.  “Seven of Ireland’s leading universities have already joined Enactus, where they and the 1,600 other universities across 39 countries develop leadership while bringing social change to communities worldwide.”

Enactus Ireland is sponsored by KPMG, Arthur Cox, AIG, KBC Ireland, Chartis, Unilever, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and the Musgrave Group.  The initiative is also supported by Gibney Communications, The Irish Times and the Chartered Accountants of Ireland.
