US financial protection benefits provider Unum has appointed the previous managing director (MD) of Fidelity Investments Oliver McKenna as MD of its Irish operations.
Unum announced plans in February 2008 to establish a strategic software service centre in Carlow and the company is now based at the Shamrock Plaza development in the town centre.
“The company’s Irish operation plays a vital part in developing and supporting critical business applications. The team in Carlow is at the heart of strategic initiatives to develop the next generation of business applications and support tools for use right across the Unum organisation,” McKenna said.
With headquarters in Tennessee, Unum reported revenues of US$10.3bn in 2011, and its subsidiaries – Unum US, Colonial Life and Unum UK – provided more than US$6bn in benefits during the same year.
McKenna is a BSc in Computer Science graduate of the University of Ulster and a postgraduate of the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
