Bill Clinton hosting 'Invest in Ireland' event in New York

Former US president Bill Clinton is set to host an ‘Invest in Ireland’ roundtable discussion in New York this Thursday, which will be attended by Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, the Tánaiste, Eamon Gilmore and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, as well as global business and economic leaders.

Clinton made the commitment to host the event at the Global Irish Economic Forum.

The Taoiseach’s office said the purpose of the event is "to engage with key business and economic leaders, with a view to encouraging those who haven’t already invested in Ireland’s economic recovery, to do so. The principal message to potential investors will be that Ireland is open for business and that now is the time to invest in our economic recovery”.

The roundtable discussion, which takes place from 10am to 12pm (EST), will be followed by the ‘Invest in Ireland Forum’ to be attended by the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. It is expected that around 100 people from the Global Irish Network and influential friends of Ireland, and existing investors here will participate in the forum. President Clinton will attend for the beginning of the event and will make some opening remarks.

The Taoiseach will address the forum on the progress Ireland is making in dealing the economic challenges the country is facing. The Tánaiste will brief the forum on the progress that has been made since the Global Irish Economic Forum was held in Dublin last year. After this, Margaret Brennan of Bloomberg Television will moderate a discussion on matters of key economic importance to Ireland.
