IoD Ireland appoints three new directors

The Institute of Directors in Ireland (IoD) has appointed three new members to its board of directors. Tom Byrne, Liam Daniel and Heather Ann McSharry were all formally elected to the Institute’s Board at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) this week.

Tom Byrne set up Abaris Corporate Advisers Limited in 2001. Prior to that he was head of Corporate Finance at Davy Stockbrokers, a position he held from 1987 to 2001. Before joining Davy, Byrne was a partner in Arthur Andersen & Co. He has also been Chairman of Acumen & Trust Limited since 2007. Byrne, a chartered director, is on the board of the Irish Takeover Panel and is a non-executive director of a number of both quoted and private companies.

Liam Daniel is currently executive vice-president and company secretary of Elan Corporation plc and has served in that role since December 2001.  He was also an executive director of Elan between 2003 and 2007.  Daniel joined Elan as financial controller in 1994.  He was financial director of Xtravision plc from 1990 to 1992 and prior to that he held the position of head of finance of An Post for three years. He is also a former president of the Financial Executives’ Association Ireland.

Heather Ann McSharry (pictured) is a non-executive director of Bank of Ireland and IDA Ireland. She was previously managing director of Reckitt Benckiser Ltd from 2006 to 2009 and prior to that she was managing director of Boots Healthcare in Ireland for a period of eight years. She is a former director of Enterprise Ireland and the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association, and a former member of the Governing Authority of University College Dublin.
