An Algerian gas discovery by Dublin-listed oil and gas company Petroceltic has been listed as the 10th-largest discovery made in the world so far in 2009 by consultancy IHS Petroconsultants.
Petroconsultants estimates that Petroceltic’s natural gas field on its Isarene permit in the Illizi basin in Algeria contains about 2.5 trillion cubic feet of gas, the Irish Independent reports.
Petroceltic is currently engaged in a drilling programme on the Isarene permit.
Petroceltic has a 75pc interest in the discovery, with the Algerian state oil and gas firm Sonatrach holding a 25pc interest.
