Aer Lingus passenger numbers up 5.8pc in January

Aer Lingus carried 5.8pc more passengers in January 2012 than in the same month last year, according to its latest figures.

The airline had a total of 563,000 passengers last month, compared with 532,000 in January 2011. Short haul passengers numbered 514,000, up 6.2pc on January 2011, while last month’s long haul passengers totalled 49,000, an increase of 2.1pc.

The airline’s load factor increased by 0.1 points over the year to 62.3pc. The short haul load factor was 62.5pc, an increase of 2 points on January 2011, with capacity increasing by 4.6pc. Long haul flown load factor was 61.8pc, down 3.9 points on January 2011, with capacity increasing by 8pc on January 2011.

Meanwhile, Aer Lingus Regional carried 53,000 passengers in January 2012,000, an increase of 26.2pc compared to January 2011.

Total flown passenger numbers, including Aer Lingus and Aer Lingus Regional operations, increased by 7.3pc.
