Ryanair launches prepaid MasterCard in Ireland

Ryanair has launched a MasterCard prepaid card for customers in Ireland who want to avoid the airline’s €6 administration fee.

The Ryanair Cash Passport, which is managed by Access Prepaid Worldwide, will replace other MasterCard prepaid cards as the only way to avoid airline’s admin fee for bookings originating in Ireland from 1 March onwards.

The card was launched in the UK last September and in Italy at the beginning of November. It is set to be rolled out in other European countries in the coming months.

The company said that each cardholder will receive a €10 Ryanair travel voucher, which is the same as the value of the card fee.

It said no transaction fees will be levied on cardholders for any purchases made on the Ryanair.com website or at any other merchants.

Like a debit card, the Ryanair Cash Passport can also be used for ATM withdrawals, online and high-street purchases at the more than 32 million locations worldwide that display the MasterCard Acceptance Mark.

“Now all Irish residents can access even more great savings with the ‘Ryanair Cash Passport’ card, which is now available to Irish residents directly on the Ryanair.com website,” said Stephen McNamara, Ryanair’s head of communications.

“Ryanair’s €6 admin fee will not apply to any bookings made with a ‘Ryanair Cash Passport’ card and there are no transaction fees for using the card at Irish and international merchants, so we urge our Irish passengers to make the switch to ‘Ryanair Cash Passport’ as soon as possible to ensure that they will continue to avoid Ryanair’s avoidable admin fees from 1 March next.”
